Children (6-11 years)

Do you ever wonder if your child’s emotions are more intense than other kids their age? Has there been a recent change in their mood or behaviors? Do they have difficulty sleeping at night or always seemed worried? Has their teacher mentioned they are having difficulty in class or with friends? Children are often unaware of the sources to their emotional pain and how to help themselves to feel better. I help families to understand how children respond to everyday stress, their environment, change/transition and possibly their genetics. I use a fun and interactive approach to teach children and their parents strategies to self-soothe and together we build an environment outside of therapy that supports their growth and fosters positive relationships. I collaborate with parents to refine and build on their existing parenting strategies to meet their child’s needs. I can assist parents with understanding their child’s educational rights for assessments to determine if an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is necessary to gain additional support at school. If you are interested in hearing more about how I may be able to help your child, please call for an appointment or phone consultation.

Adolescents (12-19 years)

Has your teen been isolating themselves from friends, lost interest in their usual hobbies or seem to have difficulty staying motivated? Do they seem to experience extreme mood changes, anger or anxiety? Are they feeling overwhelmed with academic and extra-curricular demands? As a parent are you having a difficult time understanding and communicating with your teen? Navigating through your adolescent years can be challenging, confusing and stressful not only for the individual but also for parents and siblings. I provide a space for teens to be able to speak honestly and openly about their thoughts, feelings and experiences so that together we can develop a plan to help them to be able to feel confident, happy and learn to advocate for their needs. I help parents understand the shifts that take place as adolescents strive for independence by assisting families with finding a balance between age-appropriate limits and creating an environment for them to develop a sense of self-efficacy as they prepare for adulthood. I can assist parents with understanding their child’s educational rights for assessments to determine if an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is necessary to gain additional support at school. If you are interested in hearing more about how I may be able to help your teen, please call for an appointment or phone consultation.

Families

Is your family having a difficult time communicating and understanding each other’s needs? Has there been a recent change that is impacting your family? Does it seem like the ‘finger gets pointed’ to only one family member? Has your family been affected by grief or substance abuse? Each family has a unique way of understanding, communicating and supporting one another. I respect and attempt to gain an understanding of each family’s distinctive spoken and unspoken rules and roles that drive their interactions while being sensitive to cultural considerations. Together we will explore how these rules and roles either support or prevent positive relationships and communication. I can help families process change, grief and respond to family stressors with healthy coping strategies. If you are interested in family therapy or have additional questions, please call for an appointment or phone consultation.
